Around and Around She Goes…

A beautiful demonstration of throttle steering. Steady steering wheel angle combined with minute throttle movements kept Bill’s 993 tight to the cones on this skid-pad, one of 5 integrated into this CVR AutoX-U course.

…Add three more “Arounds” to that title and you just finished a lap of the June 19th CVR AutoX course. With plenty of runs that day to perfect your technique, you drove home much more of an expert in the fine skill of Throttle Steering. The “5-Ring Circus” course was the perfect place to find your car’s limits and to learn how to finesse the “right” pedal once your car would no longer change direction with just the steering wheel. You went home a safer and faster driver.

Throttle Steering heaven the AutoX-U way!

The fast paced driving helped us squeeze in a record 8 heats and still present trophies before “that big dark cloud” would have its way. Perfect timing and a free car wash on the way home. As a special Father’s Day treat, five proud papas not only got to drive but also got to watch their kids drive the same course. Is there a better gift than that?

One of five proud papas, Gene F. gets a few pointers as he learns to “trust-in-the-force” around the skid-pad, then he got to watch his fast offspring Eric do the same.
Laying down a fast and clean second run kept Rubystone pilot Rich B. busy defending his FTD time the rest of the day. He couldn’t go faster, but nobody else could either. Congratulations Rich and welcome back!

As the day heated up, some of the fast morning times from highly experienced drivers were proving difficult to match, no matter how hard everyone tried. Decreasingly dense air conspired with increasing marbles to make efforts almost futile, but with 8 attempts to expend, hope and aggressive learning curves kept it a nail-biter until the very end.

Run after run, some shockingly tight times appeared, and they were generated from a shockingly wide variety of cars and classes. The course achieved that elusive balance of rewarding front, mid, and rear engine cars alike, better than any in memory. It was gratifying to get so many compliments on its design. Just a few tenths of a second separated many class wins and the resulting Championship AutoX Series points earned were very close. It’s been a memorable year already.

Tripping the beam, Mike A. earns a class win and refines another driving skill in the process.

Now for the July 10th AutoX course design. What driving skills will you perfect there? Look for the new course map on the CVR AutoX web page (https://cvrpca.com/autox/) and join the action for your slice of Better Driving…Faster!
