Porsche is Featured Marque for 2021 Historic Festival

Over this year’s Labor Day weekend, Lime Rock Park will celebrate the 39th running of its Historic Festival, the only event of its kind that combines historic racing, a competitive Concours, and a marque-oriented car display on the historic 1.5-mile course.  Porsche will be this year’s Honored Marque and will feature 15 911-based RS cars from the collection of architect Steven Harris.  Among the very rare RS examples to be featured will be a 1984 911 SC / RS (one of 20 built and one of only nine not converted to a rally car), a “Macau” 964 RS N-GT, and a 1995 993 RS.

There will be a dedicated Porsche Corral area located on the track infield, near the skidpad area of the newly refurbished Proving Ground of the track infield. During the Festival weekend, Porsche also plans to display current models as well as examples of its Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge program, which encourages dealers to enhance their classic Porsche repair and restoration capability. Several Porsche dealers from around the Northeast are currently competing in the program and the winning cars from the contest will be displayed throughout the Historic Festival event.

On Saturday evening of the four-day Festival, Porsche Danbury will be hosting a Porsche-themed dinner featuring former Porsche works driver Brian Redman and Formula One and Porsche competitor and team owner Stefan Johansson. Tickets will be available through limerock.com.

Sunday in the Park, The Lime Rock Concours Presented by Porsche, will continue the Porsche emphasis along the Sam Posey straight, with special classes in the Concours displaying select examples of rare 911s and 356s, along with a lineup of historic competition Porsches. In addition to the Concours will be the Gathering of the Marques, featuring up to 1,000 cars aligned by brand or car club along the rest of the Lime Rock track. CVR Members who wish to enter their cars in the Concours or the Gathering of the Marques can access an entry form here: https://lrphistorics.motorsportreg.com/

CVR President’s Note: I am delighted that Lime Rock Park has responded affirmatively to CVR’s suggestion to have a Porsche corral at the Historic Festival this year.  CVR and LRP enjoy a long-time, positive relationship, especially pertaining to the club’s driver education, autocross, and club-race programs.  Although the festival is not a CVR event, it is popular among our members.  Many CVR club racers will be participating in it again this year.  More information about the event is available at limerock.com.
