Pizza Powered Porsches!

Porsche Shrine at the ready!

April 16th is almost here! As you prepare for our first AutoX of the season (sign up now at: https://www.motorsportreg.com/) I want to share a secret. It’s true that pizza applied in the right group setting does indeed make your Porsche faster! Delayed since last October we were finally able to hold the famed Hoffman Celebration event last month. With the emergence of early Spring temperatures, CVR’s Top-20 AutoX Championship finalists were invited to gather at my favorite Porsche shrine (sometimes mistaken as my garage) which is always at the ready for such an occasion.

Even a big CVR AutoX umbrella and table cloth couldn’t cover up the generous pile of prizes from Hoffman Porsche!

Luckily, most of the drivers were able to attend despite the short notice. With glowing orange pylons marking the spot, one Porsche after another appeared on queue as if it were a CVR Rally checkpoint. Before long, the event started to look more like a CVR concours as the shiny selection of Porsches provided a vibrant pop of color to the otherwise monochromatic early Spring landscape. The gathering then morphed into what appeared to be our first in-person CVR Monthly Meeting of the year as the group grew in number and volume. Conversations multiplied as each additional car pulled in: “Is that your new car?”; “Sweet sounding exhaust…wait, is that titanium!?”; “How’s your new engine conversion going…will it be ready for the April 16th opener?”. Only plenty of hot pizza could temporarily ebb the catching up before the volume returned, then it ebbed again as the best supply of prizes I’ve ever seen at any PCA event was presented. Hoffman Porsche’s amazing support is a key part of what makes the CVR AutoX program the very best in all PCA! That claim isn’t made lightly; it is based on three years of being on the national PCA AutoX Committee and actively trying to find any comparable program.

Formal coronation of George Comenale

To cap off the Hoffman Celebration, I borrowed the actual Hoffman Cup trophy from its East Hartford showroom home just two days before. In true Stanley Cup fashion, it was seat-belted it into my 914 passenger seat for the ride home. The formal presentation to “King George II” (George Comenale) was proper acknowledgement of his dominant win at the Hoffman Cup Run-Off event last October. Since many of us have tried to blank out that memory, I had to remind “the rest of us” drivers that we didn’t just lose, we all got “spanked” by George. I further recounted that watching his drive reminded me that I also used to drive that way, so this year I’ll be re-doubling my efforts to regain that “flowing-brilliance”. I suspect I won’t be alone. Imitation is indeed flattery. Congratulations George!

To work on your flowing-brilliance driving style, join us at each of the CVR AutoX events this year. As always, everyone will feature a different AutoX-U driving skill on its own optimized course to help you master it.
