Black Horse Garage – Article by Jeff Coe, Photos by Jonathan Haggar and Jeff Coe

A warm summer evening in August found the CVRers heading to Bridgeport for our monthly meeting held at Black Horse Garage. It has been many years, prior to Covid, since we last visited BHG but CVR was excited to be returning and surprised to see all the changes since we were last there. Fellow CVR member Tom Truitt, Operations Manager at BHG, was excited to bring the CVRers in and show them the results of all the work that he and the team have done.

Still located on Union Ave in Bridgeport, but one building down from their previous location, we started the meeting by assembling several CVR members’ Porsches in the courtyard. It made for quite a welcome display for members who arrived a little later.

The courtyard was certainly a sight to see, and aside from the Porsches, BHG had acquired a significant piece of Banksy artwork, located there, as well. If you are not familiar with him, Banksy is a famous street artist from the UK. It was neat to see one of his works in person.

After a review of the assembled Porsches, the CVRers wandered into the building and upstairs to the Foolproof Brewery. Foolproof is a joint venture with BHG, and the location was simply stunning. As I worked the door, I heard a number of CVRers react with an “Oh, wow” statement as they walked in and looked around. It is an amazing space, with Tom’s own personal 911 (which graced the cover of Challenge a few months back) parked in the center of the room.

Over 90 CVRers came out for the event and assembled in the room, conversing, while taking in the fantastic surroundings. Before you knew it, it was time for dinner. Foolproof has a kitchen as well, and Spencer and Alexa brought out a fantastic spread of 3 different kinds of wings, chicken strips, Caesar salad, and vegetables, including buffalo cauliflower! The CVRers very much enjoyed the excellent food.

As members finished their meals, we started to assemble in smaller groups to tour the facility. Tom and Spenser took a few of the groups around to see the updated facility. BHG offers numerous services for the automotive enthusiast, including vehicle storage, consignment, detailing, and on-site restoration work. Members returned from the tours impressed with the facility, along with BHG’s current inventory.

With dinner and the tours complete, we then moved on to a quick CVR business meeting. After saying hello to a few new members who were attending their first meeting and then covering “the Mart”, we brought up the board members that were in attendance. President Bob came up and touched on the very successful 2025 Porsches@TheRock event, along with other CVR activities coming up on the calendar. Hard to believe the end of the season is fast approaching.

Our host Tom, and his team were thrilled with the turnout and the excitement over the establishment from the CVR membership. We concluded the meeting with two generous door prizes donated by Tom and the BHG team. Two lucky CVRers went home with custom BHG bags filled with car cleaning supplies! Lucky!!! We wished everyone a safe drive home, and a few of us remained and headed over to the bar for a beer from the great selection offered by Foolproof Brewery.

As always, please CVRers, be sure to patronize our sponsors. If you have a need for storage, consignment, or restoration services, be sure to give Black Horse Garage a call and see what they can do for you. And if you visit BHG, be sure to tell them you are from CVR and that you heard about them at a monthly meeting. And don’t forget the Foolproof Brewery. Burger specials on Thursday night and such an impressive facility! For updates on happenings at both locations, find them on Instagram.
We’ll see you next month at our September meeting, so watch your email inbox for the invite and be SURE to register! We use the registration counts to make sure there is enough food and seating for everyone.
Thanks, Jeff Coe, CVR Programs.
