Interview and photos by Jonathan Haggar
In just a few years, Repasi Motorwerks has become the go-to service and repair shop for high-performance Porsche GT cars, notably the Carrera GT. The foundation for this reputation began many years earlier when James Repasi honed his skills at Porsche Fairfield, becoming the expert for GT cars, handling every aspect of the service experience from client interface and service writing to repair work – even arranging transportation of cars to and from the dealer facility.
His vast knowledge and experience allowed him to branch out as an entrepreneur and build a team of competent and passionate individuals, most of whom are former colleagues. Their unique approach allows for a more personal customer experience – meeting and talking with the technician working on your car is one of the value-add tenants of the business. While the original business concept was based on the Carrera GT, that same passion and precision applies to all models in the Porsche family – half of the business consists of other models.
Repasi has specialists for GT cars, classic air-cooled, transaxle and SUV – and capabilities include touch-less tire mounting, road force balancing, and in-ground alignment measurement. Attention to detail and cleanliness are hallmarks of the business, from spotless floors to a special coating used to prevent oxidation of aluminum casings. Porsche factory tooling is used, and parts are either genuine Porsche or from a Porsche OEM, and are stocked to allow for more timely repairs. Specialty service requires documenting the work performed, which includes photographic records and the return of worn and replaced components to the client.
James values being active in the community. While limited parking at his facility makes it impractical to host a CVR event, he’s happy to be a major sponsor at our annual Porsches@TheRock event. You’ll also find the Repasi team eager to engage with at local car shows under their familiar red and white canopy.
We asked James some questions to learn more about the business.
Tell us about the history of your business.
In 2022, I founded Repasi Motorwerks, where we focus on low-volume, high-end Porsche service. While we service all Porsche models, we specialize in the Carrera GT, 918, Porsche GT cars, and air-cooled models.
We’re a small team of five passionate technicians who have spent most of our careers working at Porsche dealerships, each contributing our unique experience to the shop. With over a century of combined Porsche experience, we are fully equipped for any job.
What makes you unique or sets you apart from your competitors?
We focus on being honest, transparent, communicative, and most importantly, putting our clients first. It sounds simple, but feedback from our clients has been that operating under those basic principles is becoming increasingly rare.
My goal has always been to provide our clients with dealership-level or better service, with a more personal and interactive experience. While we know our clients have high expectations, we constantly strive to exceed them during every visit.
While other shops focus on speed and volume, we focus on efficiency and precision. We use all Porsche diagnostic equipment, tooling, and literature for all services we provide.
Repasi has earned a reputation for servicing and repairing Porsche GT cars. Please tell us a little about that and also how you’re well-suited for the basic service of modern daily drivers.
At Repasi Motorwerks, we’ve earned a reputation for servicing Porsche GT cars because that’s where a lot of our individual experience lies. We service more Porsche Carrera GT cars than the rest of the country combined. With those clients come a variety of other unique and rare Porsche GT cars in their collections that we commonly care for.
My team and I have worked on nearly two-thirds of the Carrera GT cars in the country, including completing extensive engine service work on half of them. Much like the technology in those cars, the service procedures and repair practices trickle down to the higher production Porsche products. We apply the same level of precision, attention, and integrity to all Porsche models that we work on
Your technicians have Porsche factory certifications for several models. What does that mean for your customers?
Being Porsche factory certified means our clients receive a level of service that meets or exceeds the standards set by Porsche itself. For customers specifically, it means their cars are in the hands of someone who understands the engineering, follows correct procedures, and uses the right tools and techniques. Whether it’s a rare GT model or a daily driver, they can trust that the work is being done with long-term reliability in mind.
What do you value about your relationship with CVR PCA?
Our relationship with CVR PCA means a lot to us. We know the CVR PCA is a community of Porsche enthusiasts who are passionate, knowledgeable, and truly care about their cars. A community that values craftsmanship and preserving the Porsche legacy. We value having the opportunity to be part of that community and working with Porsche owners who value their cars and the skill that goes into servicing them.
