Please Come to CVR’s Annual Meeting and Photofest October 27

I hope you will join me for the 2018 edition of our Annual Meeting and Photofest on October 27 at the Wyndham Hotel in Southbury, CT. This event has long been an annual CVR tradition for many reasons. Since the Photofest is typically the last official event of our season, we use the event to celebrate the year just past by announcing the winners of our awards for the year, give thanks to those members who are stepping aside from their roles as board members, and look to the future by electing a new slate of officers. We also introduce a bit of friendly competition among those CVR members submitting photographs in our “people’s choice” photography contest. The contest is open to all, with the winning photos doubly honored when they are later used as cover shots for upcoming issues of Challenge.

Following our club business and election, I’m pleased to announce we will also have a terrific guest speaker, Philip Richter, who will share his perspectives on the current performance automotive landscape and what the future developments may mean for Porsche and for PCA in particular. Philip is President and co-founder of New-York-City-based Hollow Brook Wealth Management, LLC. But perhaps more significantly to us, he is also founder and CEO of the Turtle Garage — a blog that he says is dedicated to his “love of excessive personal transportation.” Turtle Garage focuses on the past, present and future of the automobile. I personally find the content on Turtle Garage (www.turtlegarage.com) to be among the most thought-provoking and provocative automotive related content to be found anywhere. Philip is also a contributor to Sports Car Market and is a collector of German automobiles, including Porsche, and rare vintage BWM motorcycles—with even a few modern and Italian bikes thrown in for good measure. He was honored as “Motorcycle Collector of the Year” at the 2017 Lime Rock Historic Festival. In his spare time, he and his wife, Sarah, are both accomplished equestrians. Needless to say, it should make for a great evening!

Thanks to Porsche of Wallingford for once again signing-on to be title sponsor for this event and to Caroline and Alan Davis for organizing the event. Go to www.cvrpca.org to get the latest registration information. I hope to see you there!

Are You Taking Advantage of the Remaining CVR Events in 2018?

Early Autumn is a fantastic time to enjoy your Porsche here in New England. And the CVR Activity Chairs have created a fantastic array of events to hopefully entice you to come out and enjoy your Porsche with like-minded folks. Here is the rundown of activities for the balance of our year: Your club is offering four days (!) of Driver’s Education (two at Watkins Glen and two at Lime Rock Park), the Autocross season finale and the Hoffman Cup Championship, an afternoon “Chasing Classic Cars” with Wayne Carini, our October monthly meeting at the newly remodeled New Country Porsche in Greenwich, a new Coffee Run/Tour featuring the roads of Tolland County (which should be especially beautiful this time of year) and finally, a great annual Coffee Run beginning in Stamford and ending in Kent. As always, check www.cvrpca.org for dates and registration information. I hope you can get to as many of these events as possible. While I’m sure we will be offering an equally great list of events in 2019, why not enjoy your Porsche with us a bit more this year before winter begins to tighten its grip? *)
