Can you believe that autumn is here already, with winter just around the corner? By the time this month’s Challenge comes out we will have completed several of our late season events — a Saturday at Lime Rock in September, one day at Palmer at the end of September and two days at Watkins Glen in early October. But, we still have two more Lime Rock days in November, with Friday the 2nd as an Advanced day and Saturday the 3rd as a Beginner day so there is still time for you to register for a day at the track for 2018 if you let the season get away from you. Alternatively, if you have done every DE so far this year, don’t ruin the streak make sure you sign up for November.
We had two days, back to back in August at Lime Rock Park. Friday was for our Advanced drivers and we had perfect weather. With only two run groups, everyone that participated had tons of track time. Our Saturday DE was for our beginner groups. Every run group had four sessions on track. And every session had different weather. We had rain, we had drizzle, we had clouds and we had dry track. It was a great way for our beginner drivers to experience all different types of track conditions, all in one day. I’m happy to report that many of the first time drivers for the August event came back to participate in our September event.
Our September Lime Rock event was for all rungroups and we had a big turnout. It’s very satisfying to see a packed paddock since there is a lot of effort that goes into putting on a successful event. We also tried something new, adding one run session at the end of the day for the AutoX participants that had their own event over in Paddock B. After the AutoX event was over, the drivers that had registered for the DE session attended a drivers meeting and had their cars teched. After all of the formalities, they staged for their session and then went out to drive the track with an instructor in their car. Prior to the event we put out a request to make sure we’d have enough instructors for the AutoX drivers and our instructors stepped up. I want to thank all of our great instructors that volunteered to instruct for one extra session at the end of the day so that the AutoX drivers could experience a DE session. Our instructors are very supportive of the CVR DE program and we are lucky to have such a dedicated crew. They are the best.
Remember, only November Lime Rock events remain for 2018. Register on ClubRegistration.net and we’ll see you at the track.
