View From The Valley – April 2019

Electronic Challenge launch date will be June of this year.

At the March board meeting the board approved the plan to implement the electronic Challenge.    The team subsequently presented a demonstration of the electronic Challenge at the April board meeting and received approval from the board for a June launch date.  The board appreciates the feedback we have received from some members about the concern of not having a physical publication.  The board believes that the benefits of the electronic Challenge will help to ease that concern.  The transition to the new Challenge will also ensure we have a publication that will be sustainable for the next 60 years.

The CVR email blast system will also migrate to use the PCA database for the email addresses of our members.  The PCA email address database is updated daily and will allow us to reach out to new members in a timelier manner.

The beginning months of 2019 were highlighted by our Monthly Meetings where our members enthusiasm for and anticipation of the 2019 CVR 60th Anniversary driving season was clearly evident.  The meetings provide an opportunity to catch up with our friends and to meet new ones.  We appreciate our hosts providing a venue for the meetings and sustenance for our members.  I certainly appreciate the well wishes and words of support in my new role as president.

We are certainly fortunate in our region for the sheer number and quality of the events that are produced by our activity chairs.  At the beginning of the year our calendar contained 60 events and I expect that some additional events will be added as the year progresses.  I hope you have looked at the CVR calendar and selected the events you will be participating in this year.  Something new this year will be a Rally Academy in June that will give the participants a hands on demonstration in a non-competitive format on what to expect during a Rally event.

For those of us that put our cars in hibernation for the winter, one of the best days of the year is when a rain storm washes away the last traces of road salt.  Time to take the cover off the car and reduce the tire pressure from the storage pressure to the normal driving pressure.  It is recommend to not drive with one of the tires still at the storage pressure.  Though it is easily diagnosed by looking at the tire pressure reading if your car is so equipped.  Another method is to walk around the car and you will feel the heat radiating from the direction of the tire in question as you walk by.  Please don’t ask me how I know this….

Save the date for the CVR 60th Anniversary Celebration that will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019.   The venue will be the Saint Clements Castle & Marina in Portland CT.  Saint Clements Castle is a grand and beautiful facility that overlooks one mile of the scenic Connecticut River.  The emphasis of the evening will be socializing with our CVR friends.  Mark your calendar and stay tuned for details on this not to miss CVR event.

Safe travels.
