VIEW FROM THE VALLEY – September 2019

We are at the beginning of what is in my opinion some of the best weather New England has to offer. The oppressive humidity of the summer is starting its retreat. The kind of weather where running with the top down is very comfortable. I sincerely hope that you have attended as many CVR activities as you wished to this year so far. We certainly have great events to look forward to in the coming months, Autocross, Driver Education, Coffee Runs and the Fall Rally.

Treffen Vermont

After I wrote the above paragraph, we went to do a dry run of the driving tour that CVR is contributing to the Treffen Vermont. It was the perfect day for a top down drive in our Boxster, Gretchen and no better place to do it than in Vermont. CVR is doing a tour that heads from the Woodstock Inn to the Vermont Country store in Weston, VT for our midway stop and then to our final destination, lunch at the Dorset Inn in Dorset, VT.

Up to this point the PCA Treffens were put together by a single region along with PCA staff. For Treffen Vermont it is a team effort of several Zone 1 regions, including CVR, Green Mountain Region (VT), Hudson Champlain Region (NY) and the Northeast Region (MA). The regions are responsible for putting on the tours and providing volunteers to help with logistics e.g. registering Treffen participants when they arrive.

The popularity of PCA Treffen is evident in how quickly they sell out. The 142 rooms in the Woodstock Inn were booked in 8 minutes! There are participants from everyone of the 14 zones of PCA expect for Zone 12 (Florida and Puerto Rico) which make sense since Parade was in Boca Raton, Florida this year and Zone 12 (Hawaii and Alaska). CVR has a contingent of 23 participants out of the 259 PCA members who are attending. They must have been quick at the computer to register against all the competition.

CVR’s 60th Anniversary Celebration

08 - SaintClements.jpgWe will cap off the year with our 60th Anniversary Celebration – Photofest, awards and election. Our Special Events co-Chairs, Caroline and Alan Davis are putting together an evening to remember at Saint Clements Castle on the Connecticut river in Portland, CT https://www.saintclementscastle.com/ . The emphasis will be on celebrating the 60 years of CVR bringing together good friends, good conversation and our common passion for the worlds’ greatest automobiles. Details on the registration process are being finalized and will be sent via an email blast this month. Be sure to save the date, Saturday evening, November 23rd. I hope to see you there.

Safe travels,

Phil Capella
CVR President
