Porsche LEAPS into 5th Race

Saturday, February 29th, Leap Day, Porsche started their 5th Formula-E race at Marakesh.

Andre Lotterer scored for his second time since his pole at Mexico City, to the Super Pole in qualifying for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.  This is the competition of the top 6 drivers for Pole position and Andree posted a time to score third place starting position.

Neel Jani did not perform as well and said that he had difficulty from the start with the brakes and the team will analyze the data in detail.  “We still have plenty of races ahead of us.  We will continue to work intensively .”

During the race, Andre Lotterer started in third, dropped back to fourth and, in the closing minutes, slipped back to the eighth position.  This was due to having used up too much power at this time of the race and was overpowered by other cars.  The team will be looking at their understanding of the use of power during the race. Andre has added 25 more points and is 12th in the driver’s standings while the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team is 9th in the team championship.

Neel Jani finished in 18th place. There has been a big discrepancy between the two drivers. It is interesting that since September 2019, Porsche has been doing some rookie testing at Marakesh with development and test drivers Thomas Preining and Porsche Works’ Fred Makowiecki (the co-driver this year with Nick Tandy in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship). We will just have to wait and see.

The next Formula E race was scheduled for the weekend of the 12 hours of Sebring, March 21st, but it was canceled. Look for it on Fox Sports Network later this year. If you’re going down to Florida, ask for me at the next meeting or at the PorschePlatz at Sebring.

Watch for Porsche to make more history at these races!
