Social Media. Embraced, tolerated, ignored, or shunned. In the early days of social media, I tolerated it. Over time, I became more and more comfortable using it. Today, I embrace it but I’m not obsessed with it. I respect its limitations and am always aware of privacy issues.
In my first column of 2021, I want to discuss social media in a way that is already familiar and comfortable to us. Think of social media as an expansion of our motto: It’s not just the cars, it’s the people. It is the sociability of interacting with our follow CVR members at gatherings and events that make CVR membership so special to us. The real value of social media is being able to socialize with our friends even when we can’t physically be with them. The media component is just a tool.
I’ve had Facebook (FB) and Instagram (IG) accounts for several years without a single privacy issue. Why? I keep my personal information private. I don’t accept just anyone as a “friend”. I report abuse and block abusers. I do, however, learn a lot about all things Porsche all over the world. I follow Porsche owners and clubs in other PCA Regions, in Germany, Poland, Capetown, and even someone from Moldova! The variety of people, places, and events keep me enthused, engaged, and energized – especially important during the long winter months ahead. You can enjoy that feeling as well … if you give it a try.
Consider beginning with CVR’s and PCA’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. They are highly secure, constantly monitored, and offer every opportunity to keep up your enthusiasm during these difficult times. Simply go to our CVR website and click on any of the icons, or use the links above. If you don’t already have a FB, IG, or Twitter account, you’ll need to sign up in order to comment or share. (If you’re not sure how to sign up, ask a trusted relative or friend). Also, if you’re going to comment on any of our official posts, please carefully review PCA’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
It’s up to you. Start by reading CVR member posts and enjoy viewing the Porsche(s) they drive. Better yet, post a comment or a photo of your Porsche (privacy hint: cover your license plate!). One key component of our Social Media strategy is member retention. We want you to get the most out of your CVR/PCA membership!
Two additional key components of our Social Media strategy are to expand our CVR brand to a broader audience of non-CVR/PCA Porsche owners and other PCA Regions, and to find special car shows and events where we can showcase our Porsches and meet like-minded enthusiasts. We also identify and vet other Porsche-related social media platforms. It is always your choice to view or follow them.
For CVR members who already use social media platforms, thank you for following and “liking” CVR/PCA. I encourage you to post more comments and photos and share them with your non-Porsche friends. You never know who might ask you for a ride. They may become future CVR/PCA members!
I want to hear from you! Tell me what is important to you. Suggest ideas for expanding CVR’s social media presence. You can reach me at socialmedia@cvrpca.org.
