Between the Lines – August 2021

This month in CHALLENGE

This Club operates at the level it does because of a dedicated team of unpaid volunteers, many of them working long hours planning Club activities in addition to holding down full-time jobs. Occasionally, these folks decide to move on, and when that happens, there are some big shoes that have to be filled.  That’s the subject of Allen Fossbender’s Straightaway this month. There are some openings coming up with respect to Social Media, Rally, and one other position (see below) that must be filled.

That position is Tours. This month’s Tour / Coffee Run update begins with some unfortunate news: Phil and Maria Capella have announced their intention to leave their positions as Tour Chairs at the end of the 2021 season. Personally, I will miss their dedication to the Club and all their expertise and enthusiasm. I wish them well. Read the rest of their article and you’ll see that they did their usual excellent job with the rest of the Tours update.

On the subject of updates, don’t forget to read Dave Vaccaro’s latest musings on the CVR DE program and Tim and Christine Beckwith’s Rally Update. In Pylon Place, Paul Kudra’s monthly AutoX column, he writes about winning being the byproduct of 5 key points that every AutoX’er should focus on, and Mike Keller announces that registration for CVR’s 48th People’s Choice Concours is now open. You can find a registration link in his article.

There’s some big news in Joe Kuenecki’s Notes from the Shopkeeper column this month about the availability of some special merch related to the 50th anniversary of the Pink Pig. Fleece, hats, shirts – order yours before they’re gone. And don’t forget to read Joe’s accompanying Feature article on the anniversary.

Speaking of Feature articles…

This coming Labor Day weekend will feature the 39th annual Historic Festival at Lime Rock Park.  Spread over 5 days, this year’s festival is being coordinated by long-time CVR member Lowell Paddock, and Porsche is the Honored Marque this year. Among the exceptional and rare Porsches displayed that weekend will be 15 cars from the collection of CVR member Steven Harris. You can read all about the festival in Lowell’s excellent CHALLENGE article. And you can get a preview of some of Steven’s cars – and some amazing photos – in Bob Reinkens’ Feature article entitled RAREAIR.

Jerry Charlip has an excellent article on the 2021 Amelia Island Concours and the differences between 2021 and 2020. Along with some impressive photos.  And for anyone who didn’t attend the 2021 IMSA NE Grand Prix at Lime Rock, Walt Hyjek has an update on the races. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out the 2021 NE Grand Prix photo gallery.

That brings me to the subject of photos.  Everyone loves pictures and we encourage all of you to share your P-Car pics with us so we can share them with the rest of the club, but if you do, make sure you read Bigger is not always better. It’ll help you understand why we have specific limits on photo sizes and how to make sure your photos comply with our guidelines.

Don’t forget to check out the photo galleries.

Every month, members of the CVR Photo Club contribute exceptional photos to the club. Just go to the menu at the top of the page and hover over the words Photo Galleries to see a list. New content is being added constantly so check back often.
