Cheers to 75 Years!

Happy New Year!

Though we are well into 2023, this is the first installment of Challenge for the 2023 year. And so, even though we are in the month of February… I would like to wish you a happy and successful year ahead. From a planning perspective, 2023 is shaping up to be quite an exciting year for the Porsche brand and CVR chapter of the Porsche Club!

For starters, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of Porsche ingenuity.  It was in 1948 that Ferry Porsche and his team produced the Porsche 356 ‘No. 1’.  Now 75 years later, that accomplishment has set the stage for innovation that has continued to define the sports car industry. To honor and celebrate this milestone, Porsche has created a 75th anniversary exhibit in Berlin titled “Driven by Dreams”, which features a concept car – the Porsche Vision 357.  The design pays tribute to the Porsche 356, showcasing Porsche’s original design coupled with visions of the future.  To learn more about the concept car as well as the 75th anniversary exhibit, click here

If you can’t make it to Berlin for the limited time exhibit, Porsche plans to take pieces from the display on a worldwide tour (including many stops in the US).  They will conclude the tour and showcase the pieces at this year’s “Rennsport Reunion” from Sept. 28 – October 1.

2023 also marks the year that the beloved 911 turns 60. Noelle Talmon delves into the history of the Porsche ducktail in this month’s feature article. 2023 also marks the 100th year anniversary of 24 Hours of Le Mans, an event that Porsche has participated in since 1951. Though the historic event is a few months away, you can quench your thirst for racing with this month’s submission from our travelling guru, Walt Hyjek.

Locally here at CVR, we are also hitting several milestones.  2023 ushers in new leadership as former VP, Shelley Krohnengold transitions into the role of President– his column highlights his goals and vision for the upcoming year.  This year, CVR has a significant number of in-person events already on the calendar with plans to add more – including a triumphant return of our Fall Tour (registration opens today!).  Likewise, James Ball has already begun planning a slew of Coffee Runs you won’t want to miss.  AutoX and DE plans for 2023 are already underway including the fast-approaching workshop.

While we look ahead to 2023, there is a stark reminder that we are still in the heart of winter.  In this month’s AutoX column, Paul Kudra’s highlights the real-world application of AutoX when he encounters a well-known car nemesis – the deer.   Like this month’s cover image?  It’s from last year’s DE Winter Workshop!  Be sure to sign up for this year’s Workshop to learn valuable skills in a fun, safe environment– you’ll find all the details in Dave Vaccaro’s DE column this month.
