As I sit here on Mother’s day, thinking about my mom, I find myself reflecting about family in general. It is interesting to note how often family has nothing to do with blood but so much to do with chance and shared passions. As you might have already guessed, I am talking about the CVR family that I joined when we moved to Greenwich 17 years ago.

It has been an interesting journey from RM (regular member) to Challenge Editor to the position that I hold today. Along the way I’ve acquired lots of new “family” through my interaction with other CVR members. I’ve volunteered to help with and participated in many of the activities that the club offers, including Coffee Runs, Tours, Concours, Monthly Meetings, Special Events and Driver Education.
It surprises me when I meet a long-time CVR member that has not tried at least several different club activities. That is why I was so pleased to see how well the CVR Member Sampler hosted at the beginning of this month went over. Meeting host Lisa Parker’s passionate leadership is something we always count on and participant enthusiasm was obvious, first, as they listened attentively to the presentations given by CVR chairpersons and second, when given the opportunity to individually speak with them.

And, speaking of trying new activities, I finally had the opportunity for a shakedown of my Cayman S track car. It is back in the shop now, undergoing further modifications but I am looking forward to our June 5th Driver Education day at Lime Rock Park. I have my “sister and brother” Susan and Dave Vaccaro to thank for getting me from a green rungroup driver in my 1992 968 track car to where I am now. Yes, “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people” and the family we make along the way.
I hope that those of you who attended the Sampler will make an effort to try a new CVR activity this year. Looking forward to seeing you at an event in the near future.
CORRECTION
I’m sorry to say that one of our sharp-eyed CVR members pointed out a fairly serious mistake in the 2023 calendar that I put together for the club.

The dates on the month of August are wrong. Since it would be far too costly to re-print and mail I have included a one page PDF “patch” for the month of August with this article. This can be printed out at full size on your home printer and affixed to the calendar with tape or staples.
