April 2025 Monthly meeting review:

Sloan Motors/Fairfield County Motorsport – Fairfield

She was staring at me from the minute I walked into Sloan Motors to setup for the April monthly meeting. She was wearing red, guards red exactly, and hovering in the corner. She was indeed a beauty and once the meeting setup was complete, I approached Brett to have him tell me about her. I needed to know more because, I remembered her from long ago.

No, no, we are not talking about a woman here. We are talking about a beautiful 1988 Porsche 930S, but not just any 930, a slant-nose, which was part of Brett Sloan’s inventory!  I recalled a time many years ago that made a great impression on me and shared the story with the CVRers at the meeting. It was the eighties. I had recently started my career at People’s Bank in Bridgeport. During the work week, my buddy’s and I would head out for lunch and sometimes found ourselves at the Firehouse Deli in Fairfield. After lunch we would occasionally stop by Traynor Porsche, the local Porsche dealer in Fairfield at the time, to scope out the new Porsches which would in turn, provide us with incentive for working hard at the bank. During one of those visits, I notice a 930 in the corner of the showroom floor. It was white in color but unlike any I had seen as it was optioned out with the slant-nose. It was an interesting look and I liked it. Brett explained to me that only 145 were produced. Back to 1988, as I approached the car I noted the window sticker on the windshield. As I perused the option list, I noticed that the car started at $30,000. It then had a number of “regular” options but then I spotted it. The slant-nose option had a line item of its own and the cost? $30,000!!! Just for that one option!!! I have been a car enthusiast for my entire life and during all that time, I have never seen a single option that cost as much as the entire car except that one time. I knew back then that I had seen a very special Porsche so seeing one again, 40 years later, brought back the memory. Seeing beautiful Porsches like the 930 are no surprise when visiting Sloan Motors and that is why the CVR membership was there, for our April monthly meeting.

Again, the weather gods smiled on CVR as we had a clear night, maybe a little on the cool side. Brett has done his market review as the meeting topic for a couple of years now so the event drew a full CVR crowd. As the CVRers arrived they walked into his shop and were welcomed by his impressive inventory of many beautiful Porsches. As the socialization began the CVRers walked the inventory to see what they could find.

With the group assembled it was time for dinner. Brett, Don, and Dan brought in the pizza truck from Colony Grill and the fresh pizzas of all varieties started to show up as Steve, our pizza guy, served out the slices of hot pizza in all kinds of varieties. A few of the pies were spicy with a real kick! The members raved about the delicious pizza and thoroughly enjoyed them while the socialization continued.

Once everyone was filled with pizza, it was time to kick off the official meeting. Our president Bob came up to introduce the new members in attendance and then call on the board members that were in attendance to give an update on their areas. With the business concluded it was time for the evening’s main event, the Porsche market update provided by Brett.

Brett came up, welcomed the group, and started with a review of the business (started by his father), and their business model, how he purchases cars and what he looks for.

The presentation then moved on to the market review. Brett reviewed many of the most popular and collectible Porsche segments and discussed what the market direction was and his thoughts on the future. (Writer’s comment: There must have been an oversight here as the 968 segment didn’t make the review???!!! 😊 )  As expected, some cars are hot and some are not and there is always movement. It was interesting to learn about the unique line examples in the various segments and how they can add additional value. Brett wrapped up with a discussion point that was fresh on everyone’s mind, the tariffs, and how they will impact the collector Porsche market. There are many open questions there right now so much remains to be seen. It was a fascinating presentation and followed up with some questions from the CVR audience.

We concluded the evening with a couple of door raffle prizes donated by Brett and then wished everyone a safe journey home.

Thank you Brett, as well as Don Vidoil and Dan Mailer of Fairfield County Motorsport for hosting our April monthly meeting. We had a blast. And thank you Steve and the Colony Grill pizza truck crew for serving up our delicious dinner.

And please CVRers, be sure to patronize our sponsors. If you are looking for a collectible Porsche, give Brett a call. Need service work? Reach out to Don or Dan at FCM. And when you do, be sure to tell them you are from CVR and that you heard about them at a monthly meeting or other event!!

Thanks, your CVR programs crew.
