CVR Members Battle Mother Nature
Mother Nature threw us a second curveball for our meetings this year, first a snowstorm in March, and for May, tornadoes and hail (Yes hail… I’m glad I left the 911 at home). The May monthly members meeting was held at Musante Motorsports in South Windsor. We cannot thank Chris, Renee and the entire staff of Musante Motorsports enough for their heroic effort in ensuring our meeting went on as planned. We had 173 registered for the event with almost 80 in attendance (despite the weather) which shows the resilience of CVR PCA members. Everyone had an opportunity to check out the facilities and the numerous projects going on in the shop while enjoying a great meal provided by our host. Once everyone was fed (and finally dry) we started our meeting. First up was CVR president Dick Strahota who discussed current business, upcoming events and introduced each activity chairperson. Please continue to check our CVR website calendar, social media sites (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and sign up for our e-mail blasts to make sure you receive up to date information. We welcomed a couple of new members who braved the weather to attend.
Our first presenter for the evening was Morgan Duffy from HWI Motorsports. HWI are specialists in insurance coverage for daily drivers, classics, specialty, track, and collector cars. Morgan educated us on the intricacies of having the correct coverage for these types of vehicles, discussed cases where unfortunate car owners were not covered correctly and answered many questions from our members.
Our second speakers for the evening were Matt Doyle and Scott Smith from Bozzutos/Hometown foundation and Dean Cusano from Motorcars Incorporated to discuss the DreamShow/DreamRide event. We were also lucky to have Bobby Osborne a local athlete from the Special Olympics who stole the show and gave me a run for my money in emcee duties. We watched a video showing how grateful the parents and athletes were and the difference this event makes in their lives. Bobby told Os how much it meant to him personally, he was one of 365 athletes to attend last year. DreamRide.org is one of the largest Special Olympics fund raising events in the country, raising over $1.55 million in 2017. CVR PCA will have its own show area for all our members and their Porsche vehicles (new and old) at the DreamShow on Sunday, August 5th. The event in its 18th year is held at the Farmington Polo Grounds, please contact Joe Morrow at: jmharleyd@gmail.com or (203) 318-6040 for more information on the event and registration.
The meeting ended with our raffle and a reminder of upcoming events. We hope to see you in June when our meeting will be held at Dan Jacobs in Southbury or in July at Porsche of Wallingford.
Thanks, Your CVR programs crew.
