Challenge Home Entertainment Guide

This issue of the Entertainment Guide features the great documentary “50 Years of the 911”. A feature length episode from the popular series “Everyday Driver”. Watch as Paul Schmucker and Todd Deeken have the enviable task of driving and reviewing eight different 911 models tracing the changes that have taken place on of one of our favorite cars.

On the feature film front we’ll see Michael J. Fox launched to superstardom in the first of the iconic “Back to the Future” films and watch Mel Gibson join with nuclear holocaust survivors to defend an oil refinery as Mad Max in “The Road Warrior”.

With our state finally starting to open up I’m not really sure how much longer I will continue with this bi-monthly feature. Hopefully this has helped in some small way to keep you entertained during these challenging times. If you have any suggestions for movies, documentaries or TV shows to share please feel free to let us know.

Get out and drive your Porsche when you can but don’t forget to stay safe!

June 1st: This issue of the Entertainment Guide features one of the quintessential racing films from the 60s “Grand Prix”. It follows the exploits of American Racing Driver Pete Aron (James Garner) and introduces a thinly veiled homage to Honda’s entry into F1 racing.

Our Porsche documentary for this issue “Decades of Disruption” traces the iconic lineage of the Porsche brand, from 356 though Panamera. Lastly, for a bit of movie silliness we revisit “Smokey and The Bandit” Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and “The Great One” Jackie Gleason star.

We hope this bi-monthly feature is helping to keep you entertained during these challenging times. If you have any suggestions for movies, documentaries or TV shows to share please feel free to let us know. Stay safe!

May 15th: This issue of the Entertainment Guide will focus on “great remakes”—classic car-themed cinema from the 60s and 70s and their newer updated versions. Our Porsche documentary for this issue “Porsche 911 by Studiokippenberger” features Bugatti’s head of design Achim Anscheidt’s personal Porsche 911 backdate project. Headed by the elusive Porsche 911 specialist builder Willi Thom, who has no phone, no email, no www, his street address is a secret — his services are referral only. Mr. Thom guides us through the tedious before and after the backdating process.

We hope this bi-monthly feature is helping to keep you entertained during these challenging times. If you have any suggestions for movies, documentaries or TV shows to share please feel free to let us know. Stay safe!

For the May 1st issue of the Entertainment Guide, the key word is “classic”—classic cinema combined with documentaries about some of our favorite classic racing drivers. Thrown into the mix for good measure is the Porsche-centric documentary “Great Cars: Porsche” which traces the history of the brand from its inception.

We hope that this new bi-monthly feature will help keep you entertained during these challenging times. You may have seen some of these films in the past, but they are good enough to watch over again. If you have any suggestions for movies, documentaries or TV shows to include in future editions of this guide please feel free to let us know. Stay safe!

April 15th: The last month has been a challenging one for all of us, virtually all of us have been touched in one way or another by the nightmare scenario that has been unfolding in our country. Adding to that grief is the fact that we can’t even go out and enjoy our Porsches or the company of friends at any of the great activities offered by our club.

Since we have been “social distancing” I’ve had the opportunity to catch up on some reading and movie watching so I’ve decided to appoint myself your temporary Club Entertainment Guide, at least for the foreseeable future. If you are an Amazon Prime or Netflix member you may be familiar with some of these. The plan is to present several interesting links in each issue. If you have any suggestions please feel free to let us know.
