Between the Lines – July 2020

Life is slowly getting back to normal in Connecticut: Restaurants are open for outdoor dining (and some limited indoor dining). Retail shopping is coming back. The attendance limits on the number of participants who can attend outdoor events have been increased. And that, fellow enthusiasts, means CVR’s on-track and on-road driving events are happening. It also means this is the first edition of Challenge since March that has actual articles in it about actual driving events that actually just happened or are about to happen.

Things are different for sure. But our activity chairs have done an amazing job of planning. Through their efforts, CVR Members can safely – that’s the operating word – experience all of the Club’s events. A tremendous amount of time was spent aligning event policies with all Federal, State and Local COVID-19 guidelines. There’s a lot that won’t look the same as last year and the key is to know before you go. Don’t forget to read Dave Vaccaro’s DE 2020 update, Paul Kudra’s AutoX update and Maria Capella’s Tours and Coffee Run update.

Dave, Paul and Maria aren’t the only people who’ve been busy. Tim and Christine Beckwith have planned an innovative Rally event for us that they’ve named The Ice Cream Social (Distancing) Rally. The Rally happens between July 3rd and July 18th. Click here to sign up now before you forget. And thanks to Mike Keller’s efforts, CVR will have not one, but two Concours events this year, including our first Virtual Concours. You can read the details in his column this month.

Our feature article this month, entitled The Perfect GoPro Car Setup, involves my search for the perfect in-car camera setup. If you’re at all like me – and I’m betting some of you are – you’re going to want to record your track time, coffee runs and rallies for your off-season viewing enjoyment. (And maybe to show off a little bit to your friends.) If you haven’t bought your video equipment yet, check out my list of what to get, and what to avoid.

Welcome back. We’ve missed you.
