Between the Lines – August 2020

As Editor, I try to use this space each month to talk about the content other amazing people have contributed to Challenge. Quite frankly, that hasn’t been the easiest thing to do since the middle of March when our part of the country shut down all indoor and outdoor gatherings of more than 5 people. There just wasn’t much to talk about, except for what we were looking forward to and how we were preparing for it. I’m happy to say that’s changed.

This month, you will find a full slate of content covering all of our on-road and on-track activities. Paul Kudra has prepared an excellent article called Some Like It Hot! about our first AutoX event of the season. We have not one, but two articles about our first Driver Education events since February: One article from DE VP David Vaccaro and another from Bob Reinckens (complete with an excellent photo gallery).

Editor’s Note: Speaking of photo galleries, you may have noticed none of the Challenge photo galleries have been working recently. That’s because the plugin we use to show them went through a major update and I forgot to put the update through. My bad. That’s been fixed and all of the existing galleries are back online.

In addition to the three on-track articles mentioned above, there’s an article about the June 28th Southern Berkshire Coffee Run by Steve Tougias and John Collins (check out the really cool video at the end), and a feature article from Todd Pajonas called Winston Churchill On Driving A Race Car. (You did know Churchill was a speed demon, didn’t you?) There’s also a Touring update from Maria Capella and an article about the recent, and wildly successful, CVR Virtual Concours from Mike Keller. (Hint – Ann Fagan’s entry of her 1977 Martini Championships Edition 924 blew everyone else away.) And finally, there’s an update about the recent Ice Cream Social [Distancing] Rally from Tim and Christine Beckwith.
