Columns Editor's Notes

Summer was too short this year.

Welcome to the September 1st issue of Challenge which is likely the second to last issue of the summer. I hope you’ve had a chance to get out and drive while enjoying the warm weather. I know I have.

Thankfully, the State of Connecticut has been on top of it’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, our club has pulled off some great events this summer.  Other than the masks we must wear, things are starting to feel a bit more normal and as a result, we have another very full issue of Challenge for you.

First up is the announcement of a nominating committee for several CVR board positions. As many of you know our positions are for two-year terms and a number of them come up for renewal this year. Please check out Phil’s article on the nomination process.

Still on the subject of the CVR board, the decision has been made to cancel in-person monthly meetings for our members through the end of 2020. It’s unfortunate, but you can read about the decision and the rationale behind it in Jeff Coe’s Programs Update article.

As I mentioned at the outset, we’ve had a number of events take place this month. There are two articles related to these events that were actually released on August 15th: one from Dave Vaccaro regarding the September 12th on-again off-again on-again DE event at Lime Rock Park and another from James Ball about the Tropical Storm Isaias Coffee Run. There’s also Paul Kudra’s new article on the August 8th AutoX. With respect to future events, please check out Christine and Tim Beckwith’s article about this year’s Fall Rally, and Mike Keller’s announcement about CVR’s upcoming Car Show.

Finally, Fast Pan!? is our feature article this month from Walt Hyjek. It’s a little bit different. You’ll just have to check it out for yourself.
