Columns Editor's Notes

I’m glad it’s over, but 2020 wasn’t ALL bad.

Before I talk about what’s in the December issue of Challenge, I would like to give my sincere personal thanks to our outgoing club President Phil Capella, for his friendship, and for his help and support all of last year during our transition from Challenge as a print magazine to Challenge as a fully digital publication. I would also like to express my thanks for his steady stewardship of the club during what is likely to be remembered as the most unique and vexing year in our history. Getting us through this crisis has been no small feat.

Now let’s talk about the December issue.

It turns out that there’s a lot more content in this issue of Challenge than I’d expected there to be a month ago. In addition to season wrap-up articles by Dave Vaccaro for DE and Maria Capella for Touring, there is a great autocross article called “It’s Not about HP!” by Paul Kudra. Don’t forget to read Phil’s last View from the Valley column as President, and all of our three Feature articles.

Feature article one, entitled “The End of a Porsche Era” is from Walt Hyjek, and talks about the end of Porsche having a Manufacturers team in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series. Feature article two, entitled “Quick Rick Canter – CVR’s DE Chief of Instructor Development” is written by longtime club member Todd Pajonas. The final Feature article was originally published in Challenge in September 2013. Entitled “Where Am I in IMS”, it’s a technical discussion of the dreaded IMS bearing problem found with first-generation Boxsters. If you have a Boxster, or you’re thinking of buying one, you need to read this.

Have a wonderful holiday season. And remember, track season is just around the corner.

Eric
