Columns Editor's Notes

THE SEASON AHEAD

It’s been quite frigid lately, but a significant milestone is just around the corner.

Mark your calendars, February 2nd is a very important date.  It’s the date that Mr. ‎Punxsutawney Phil informs us of our fate – will we have an early spring or will winter carry on forcing us to garage our cars a bit longer?  It all rests on the shoulders of a groundhog and his shadow.

While I am clearly not a “winter person” by any means, even I can admit that looking out of the window during a heavy snowstorm is beautiful.  There’s a certain calmness that seems to settle when there’s nowhere to go and all you have is time.  Time to reflect and time to plan.  This past month here at CVR, we did just that – plan.

The Annual Planning Meeting was held this January to discuss and strategize on all upcoming events and activities.  In his monthly column, Straight Away, President Allen Fossbender highlights the developments and goals from this year’s meeting.  With the hope of a return to in-person gatherings, there are several new events that are sure to grab your attention.

Planning is certainly the theme with DE as well;  Dave Vaccaro has a number of exciting events underway. This month he showcases images in the snow from last year’s Winter Workshop.  Registration for DE’s next event (WWCCC) begins on February 1st.  With promises of becoming a better driver & a commemorative t-shirt – what could be better? Please note: space is limited.

The topic of Better Drivers pops up in this month’s Pylon Place column where the question of “If Porsche drivers truly are better” is examined– and who would know better than AutoX Chair, Paul Kudra?  This month’s column muses over that very question and highlights some of the best, the winners of 2021’s CVR AutoX.

Notes From the Shopkeeper answers another important question: what’s the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day? Expert Joe Kunecki has the answer to your gifting questions: whether for yourself or a significant other, nothing beats Porsche gear. In this month’s column, you’ll find direct links to ensure you have all your gifts covered.

Or perhaps you’re interested in gifting the new 2022 Cayenne Platinum Edition?  In the latest On The Road feature, Walt Hyjek gets ready for the new year by reviewing the new Porsche model and looks ahead to the upcoming racing season.

Sit back and enjoy this month’s edition of Challenge and don’t forget to tune in February 2nd to see the results.   Shadow or no shadow, I swear I see the snow melting, so rest assured an exciting Porsche season is right around the corner.

Happy Reading,

Caroline

  1. Caroline,
Congratulations on your second issue of Challenge! While I always have considered myself a “winter person”, the unusually long month of January combined with the excitement of this month’s issue of Challenge, really makes me look forward to the 2022 driving season, including the Pocono parade AutoX, more than ever.
    Paul
