Recap: Miltonbury Lakes Coffee Run

It was a bright and sunny typical July day as club members began to arrive in Newtown, CT for the first Miltonbury Lakes Coffee Run.

As the clock approached 8:30 more and more members kept arriving. Some members even drove down from MA!  In total 34 Porsches of many different “flavors” were present. All eras of the Boxster were present as were many Cayman’s and of course, a large 911 showing. What caught many folks’ attention was the large contingent of GT cars that were in attendance. Several GT3s, a fresh GT4, a GT2rs and a Spyder were the subjects of many photos.

During the pre-drive meeting many had a good chuckle when we were asked exactly where Miltonbury was.  They had been looking on maps and had come up empty. The tour organizer (and author of this recap) explained it was a completely fictitious name that encompassed the many place the route followed.  Those being Milton, Woodbury, Southbury, Lake Waramaug and Bantam Lake.

Once underway, club members were treated to remote roads that traversed valley floors, mountain switchbacks, scenic vistas and densely wooded forests. The roads were quiet and twisty and the cars were in their element.

At the rest stop members were exclaiming,

  • “I’ve driven this area and never knew these roads were here.”
  • “These are some of the best roads I’ve driven.”
  • ‘“I can’t believe how beautiful this area is.”

After the rest stop, there was plenty more to enjoy.  After 99 miles it seemed those in attendance were thrilled and a bit tired (I know I was). Most promised they’d be back for the October run that revisits the best roads of this run and adds a bunch of new ones.  That run is called, “Rural Fairfield/Litchfield County Roads”.  I promise you those counties are on a map….they are real.  You’ll find them next to Miltonbury 😉

Cheers,

Mark Mahoney
