Driver Education – January 2019

Well, here we go again. Are you ready for the 2019 CVR DE season? If not, now is the time to get all things DE-related in order. Don’t be that person who waits until one week prior to the first event to get their car looked over. Once spring comes, the shops/sponsors are swamped with their work load for DE, Club Racing and just general street driving.

CVR has the 2019 DE schedule already posted on ClubRegistration.net and if all has gone according to plan, the dates are also listed on the CVR web site calendar.

Our Winter Workshop will be held at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, February 23rd. The logistics are still in the planning stage but will be firmed up before registration opens. If you attended the event last year and had way too much fun, expect the same for this year’s event. Attendance will be capped at 40 participants. We’re hoping for cold (but only for the Workshop, not for the DE track days).

The 2019 schedule is very similar to the 2018 schedule, with just a few changes. I am very happy to announce that Lime Rock Park worked with us and let us swap our two half days in August for a full day Saturday in August. It is great having all of the rungroups together at one event and has been something that we’ve been trying to get for years. Instead of having lots of shared days with the Lime Rock Club, we now have full days on either a Monday (April and Saturday (August, September and November), with only one half day in May for our beginner groups. Add our Watkins Glen events in June and October and there have got to be some dates that will work with your schedule. Please support our events — your attendance and participation is vital in keeping our program successful.

For all of you that are going to be trying DE for the first time — remember to register and pay early on ClubRegistration.net. And early means ‘the first day of registration’ so that you don’t end up on the waiting list. There is a lot of information on the DE page of the CVR Website that covers most questions you would have. Please read the DE Guide to learn about our DE program or watch the video that CVR instructor Todd Pajonas made, to show you what a DE day is like. By just reading the Guide and watching the video, you’ll feel very comfortable at your first DE event, ready to join your fellow Porsche enthusiasts for a great day of learning and fun.

For DE drivers that have upgraded to race seats and harnesses — PCA implemented a new rule that requires anyone with a multi-point harness system use a head and neck restraint system (HANS). While safety is always promoted at our events and I’m pretty sure that most of our drivers with safety equipment already use a HANS, it is now an official part of the DE minimum standards.

To wrap up the 2018 season, congratulations are extended to the DE award
winners, with the Dale Smith trophy presented to Chris Musante and the Instructor of the Year award presented to Chuck Veth. Both winners are CVR DE instructors and are great assets for our program.

Enjoy the rest of the winter that spring will be here soon, kicking off a new season.

See you at the track.
