CVR DE 2020 Starts In June

Covid-19 & DE track events: while the states open things up gradually, we already know that we will see changes at the track facilities to ensure the safety of all the participants and the track employees.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Watkins Glen June event due to the multitude of restrictions put on all of the clubs renting the track.  All PCA events were cancelled for the month of May and June at Watkins Glen, including the Zone 1 Club Race, our DE event and the Zone 1 DE event.  Very disappointing but hopefully we will still hold our scheduled October WGI event.

Trying to get our DE season off the ground, we reached out to Lime Rock Park to see if we could get a day in June and instead of one day, we were lucky to secure two days – a Saturday morning half-day on June 13 from 9 am – 12 noon and a full-day on Thursday June 25.  The Saturday half-day event will be for Advanced Drivers only (white, black, red).   The Thursday full-day event will be for Solo Drivers (yellow solo, white, black, red).

We have new guidelines to follow, set by Lime Rock Park, to run the events safely.  Our events are always run with safety as our first concern but now we have the added precautions due to the Coronavirus.  All of the new rules will be disclosed to participants before the event but will include such things as bring your own pen to sign the waivers, wear a mask and gloves, maintain 6’ distancing with no more than five people per group and most important – do not come to the track if you have a fever or cough or show any symptoms of illness.  We expect everyone to cooperate and adhere to the new rules and guidelines.

For the immediate future on how our DE events will run, until we are allowed and feel comfortable, there is only one person allowed in a car – no exceptions.  This means that we are putting on hold accepting novice/instructed drivers into events until we get social distancing lifted and instructors feel comfortable sitting in the right seat.

I have read the LRP guidelines and feel that they (LRP) have a put together a great protocol for all participants – arrive, drive, go home.  For all of the Solo drivers that drove with us in 2018 and/or 2019, you should have received an email with the new LRP protocols. The events will be the same, with a few tweaks and it will be a little odd to not hang out and socialize, but by changing some ways the events are held, we are finally allowed to get back on track.

Once again, I am really sorry to all of our novice drivers but please hang in there.  Chuck Veth (CVR’s Chief Instructor) and I have discussed possible further precautions for our students/instructors and we will finalize those steps once we finally get the okay to have two people in a car.  Some say that we will lose our beginner students but I disagree.   We have one of the best DE programs and I believe that our beginner students will be ready to register for a CVR DE event as soon as it is possible.

Be Safe.  See you at the track.
