August found the CVR programs team visiting SpeedSport Tuning in Danbury for the latest in our series of virtual meetings. We sat down with Jeff Adams and Matt Rosati from the SST Vintage team for an update on things at the shop and a tour of some of their current projects.
Jeff started by telling us that the shop continues to perform strongly despite Covid and the loss of company founder and CVR friend Spencer Cox. New Owner (and former General Manager) Bryan Lagas and the SST team continue to provide service for all aspects of your automotive needs.
SST has four distinct departments: Porsche Street, Porsche Vintage, Competition, and European. All these areas along with their dedicated teams continue to be busy (and we were happy to hear that). SST is a long-time supporter of CVR and many of our Members frequent the shop.

After a brief Q&A session, Jeff and Matt took us out to the shop to see a few of their current projects. After seeing a few vintage 911s, they moved on to an amazing 1956 356A Carrera GS with the nickname of “The Killer”. Built with just the right mix of upgrades, the car was beautiful and wicked as it sat up on the lift. It was set up with a modified RS-60 Spyder race engine, a Wevo 5 Speed transmission, and a very special Ohlins suspension. Matt started it up for us and we were greeted by a loud symphony from the tuned powerplant ready to jump off the lift and onto the road.
After seeing an amazingly rare 550A Spyder we moved into the shop where Jeff and Matt do their “magic”. Jeff showed us a few select engines and the work that goes into putting these together including the uber-rare 4 cam. Other “show and tell” items included a tour of how Jeff has custom pistons made for his projects, a crankshaft setup stand, and a 1960 Navy 1000lbs torque wrench that Jeff found on eBay. It was fantastic to see the passion Jeff and Matt share for the work that they do. Before you knew it, our hour was done and we wrapped up our meeting.
Thanks so much to Jeff and Matt and the entire gang at SST for hosting our meeting. An additional appreciation shoutout to Allen Fossbender and Eric Richmond for assisting with meeting operations.
In case you were wondering, we hope that Covid will be behind us soon and we’ll be back to in-person monthly meetings in 2022. In the meantime, we hope you continue to enjoy our virtual meeting offerings.
