Champions?

If drivers Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet, with Pfaff Motorsports, start the IMSA race at Road Atlanta on October 1st (the Petit Le Mans), they will have won not only the team championship but also the driver’s championship. They have won five out of nine of the IMSA races and have climbed the podium all but twice this year driving their #9 Plaid Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Pfaff Motorsports won the GTD championship last year.

They will be assisted by Porsche driver Felipe Nasr in the 10 hours of the Petit Le Mans on the 2.54 mile, 12-turn road course at Road Atlanta.

You can watch the race on Saturday, October 1st from noon – 3 pm on NBC, 3 pm – 10:30 pm on USA Network, or on Peacock Live, green flag to finish – noon to 10:30 pm.

Driver Matt Campbell won the Petit Le Mans in 2020 and 2021 in a Porsche GTLM, GT LeMans class while Porsche has won the most, at 22 times.

At the last race, I was unable to file a report due to the timing of the race on August 29th at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Pfaff won their 5th race of the year. Matt Campbell started in 3rd position and moved up to 2nd on the 1st lap. Mathieu Jaminet later moved up to the lead by way of pit stop strategy and fuel saving to finish 1st overall. Fuel savings had turned out to be very well done, saving a pit stop for additional fuel, as he ran out of fuel after the finish line, during the cool-down lap.

Also in the GTD class, there are 140 points separating the top 4 teams for the championship with Porsche #16 – Wright Motorsports – in 3rd, only 90 points behind, with drivers Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen.

Watch these Porsche teams fight for their championships this coming weekend.

Next month I will have more on the Petit Le Mans race, a new Porsche car and next year’s Porsche participation in racing.

It was nice to see many of you at the last two monthly meetings and I hope we can continue to hold them and finally participate in CVR events now and in the future.
