Columns Driver Education

Calling all Porsche owners

Since we are already into summer, you have to realize that you are running out of days in 2023 to come and have some fun with your car at one of CVR Driver’s Education days.

CVR DE had a busy June.   We had one day at Lime Rock Park, for all rungroups.   Our great club photographer, Bob Reinckens, was once again in attendance and he took a slew of pictures for the drivers, which he generously shared for free.  The pictures shown below were all taken by Bob. We sent the drivers pictures of their car on track as a great memento from a fun DE day. Thanks Bob, for spending your time at the track to take pictures of all the cars.

One week later, CVR held an Advanced DE at Watkins Glen.  While Monday was not perfect weather-wise, Tuesday was terrific – sunny and not too hot.  We had seven Mazda MX-5 Cup Car drivers, from team JTR Motorsports Engineering, join us at our WGI event, getting ready for their June IMSA races. They were a great bunch of guys. They did very well at IMSA, placing 1st, 3rd, 6th, 8th, plus a few other finishes, in the first race and 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and a few other finishes in the second race. They are moving into 992 Cup Cars so maybe we’ll see them again next year. Our second Watkins Glen event for 2023 will be in October.

Our next DE event is Monday, July 10, for all rungroups, followed by our Saturday, August 5th DE event.  Both will be at Lime Rock Park.  As always, registration is on ClubRegistration.net.

The August 5th DE will be held in conjunction with a club-wide/region-wide Porsche day at LRP.    Besides the DE on track, there will be an AutoX in B Paddock.   Non-track activities include a Porsche Cars and Coffee gathering, a Porsche-themed swap meet, food trucks with food for purchase and vendor and sponsor displays.   There is no registration or entry fee required for Porsche Cars and Coffee participants.  The Porsches at The Rock event has two main sponsors: Porsche South Shore and Repasi Motorwerks.

Come and see for yourself.  Porsches are built for the track first and as an everyday grocery-getter second.  Registration is not yet open for the August 5 DE, so the roster hasn’t started, but it’s practically a guarantee that you will see all sorts of models on track: Cayman, Boxster, GT3, GT4, GTS, etc.  Our cars are meant to be driven at speed on track. Come and have some fun, meet new friends and learn how to drive your car the way Porsche meant for them to be driven.

If you are still not convinced that you must try a DE day, come to the August 5 Porsches at The Rock event.   Check out the beautiful Porsches on display, including your own car and watch the DE action on track or the AutoX action in B Paddock.   Every Porsche will receive a goodie-bag, while supplies last.  And maybe you’ll find what you have been looking for, for your car, at the Porsche-themed swap meet.  Porsches at The Rock will run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Hopefully we will see you at a DE – remember, the season is going by quickly. Make sure that you have the August 5th Porsches at The Rock event marked on your calendar.

Dave
