Columns Editor's Notes

A DAY LATE BUT *NOT* A DOLLAR SHORT

Challenge Magazine is put together in a fairly short time.  Our contributors have until the 28th of the month to submit all their content, then in 2 short days we edit, review and publish.   With the help of Challenge’s assistant editor, Susan Vaccaro, turning over the content in two days is do-able.

This month however, was a bit of an anomaly.  Between a death, a contractor issue, a car problem, (all arising within the last few days of the month), the deadline to publish became a bit daunting.  As I attempted to put together the magazine in the wee hours of Sunday morning, I realized that it was a task I simply would NOT be able to complete, try as I may.  I quickly typed out an e-mail to Allen & Shelley mentioning I wouldn’t be able to publish on time along with my sincerest apologies. The response back was a gentle reminder that this is a volunteer position, and that life happens and takes precedence.

The truth is, it is very easy to forget that CVR is wholly run by a group of volunteers when you’re surrounded by such high performers.  Through the short time I have been involved with CVR, I have noticed that everyone who I have worked with has been nothing short of passionate, diligent, and responsive.  From Special Events to AutoX, each activity chair dedicates so much time and effort that you could easily confuse the level of execution for that expected at a full-time job.

Club Race is a great example of passion & professionalism at it’s finest.  This year, we had close to 100 drivers and a large number of sponsors – all of which needed coordination.  The 30th Annual Club Race was certainly no easy task to pull off and it required time and dedication from CVR members.  In President Allen Fossbender’s article, he highlights how almost 100 volunteers were able to rise to the occasion and execute an amazing multi-day event.

Amongst the volunteers were a slew of talented photographers who tirelessly covered every angle of the course. You can find their images in the 2022 Club Race Gallery here. If you find an image you would love to have printed and framed, Paul Roth’s latest post explains how to do so via SmugMug. While you’re reminiscing about Club Race, be sure to peruse Joe Kunecki’s article which showcases all the latest Club Race gear.

Challenge may be a day (or 2) late, but this edition is certainly **NOT** a dollar short.  With 13 articles, this issue is full of amazing highlights and interesting reads.  You will find not one, not two, but THREE feature posts – a tantalizing article by Paul Kudra, one by Walt Hyjek and a *first-ever* feature gallery by Bob Reinckens.  Then, of course, there are the reader favorites:  Paul Kudra’s AutoX, the popular DE column, and Coffee Run Recap.  You’ll also find announcements and details of upcoming events including our first in-person monthly meeting, an upcoming coffee run, and a very special Family Day at Lyman Orchards.

Sit back, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy your late but GREAT May issue of Challenge.
