View from the Valley – May 2020

I hope that everyone is well or at least as well as can be expected in the times we are living through. What started for the CVR Board as a sprint to react to the onset of pandemic seems to be transitioning into a marathon. As always the health, safety and well-being of CVR members, their families and our sponsors continues to be the board’s highest priority. Fortunately, the acts being taken by everyone to flatten the Covid-19 curve are working, although certainly with a level of sacrifice that has not been seen at least in my lifetime.

The April 6th board meeting resulted in the postponement or cancellations of all our events in May. These decisions were driven by the guidelines and executive orders that are in place until at least May 20th. Cancelling events is the opposite of what we normally focus on, i.e. putting on events. The cancellation of the 65th Porsche Parade in Palm Springs scheduled for June was announced by PCA in April. Certainly a big decision for PCA since Parades are planned out three years in advance.

Given that plans are being made for how our country can start returning to some level of normality, the CVR board will be doing the same for our activities to the extent possible. The first priority will always be everyone’s safety.

Please keep our sponsors in mind and do what you can to support them with your business, if possible. Their support is key to the events and activities we enjoy.

Now for something to hopefully divert your attention for a few minutes. Who is that driving Jeff Coe’s car? You will hear from Jeff in the last segment of the video. Thank you to Shelley Krohnengold for putting together the Challenge Home Entertainment Guide that led me to see what PCA has to offer on their YouTube channel.

Be safe,

Phil Capella
CVR President
