Calling all DE drivers

Our annual June Watkins Glen event is only 2 weeks away, scheduled for June 14 & 15, 2021.   This event is for White, Black and Red rungroup drivers.  Registration is on ClubRegistration.net.  We are lucky to have this venue as our “track away from home”.

Watkins Glen still has strict rules in place, subject to change at any time, but as of this writing, they are not allowing minors onto the property.  Our fingers are crossed that the State of NY will update their guidelines before our event.  CVR has to provide WGI with a list of names by Friday, June 11th.  Everyone must still go the WGI registration building at Gate 2 (where they will have the list of names), to sign-in and get a WGI wristband before going to the entry gate to come up to the track and garage area.

If you have already registered for the event but forgot to register for a garage space, it’s not too late.  Please contact our Registrar for info on how to reserve and pay for a spot in the garage.

All WGI participants will receive a special WGI Commemorative Sticker, designed just for CVR.   Shelley (CVR’s Executive VP) designed the stickers and had them printed.  He told us that they are a special limited edition sticker – when they are gone, they are gone.

After WGI, our next DE, for all rungroup drivers, will be held on Monday, July 12 at Lime Rock Park.  We are very happy to finally be able to have all of our drivers back at an event – instructed drivers, solo drivers, advanced drivers and instructors.  Registration opens on June 3rd, at 1 p.m.   We expect the beginner groups to sell out quickly, so if you really want to drive, make sure you register early.

We haven’t have instructors and students in the car together since November 2019 and believe that there is a great demand for instructed slots.  If you’ve been anxiously waiting to be able to take your Porsche to the track, the July 12th event is the day for you.  It will be great to get back to what CVR does best – teaching others how to drive their Porsche the way it is meant to be driven.

The CVR DE Committee put together a detailed protocol on how to be safe during a pandemic, with two people in one car.  We are still going to be cautious, but have modified the rules that were put in place during the pandemic.  Loaner helmets will once again be available for rent, to first-time students that have received their Covid vaccination.  We have also removed the face mask requirement for those with full-face helmets.

Students are still required to provide their own IMSA headset with the conversion cable for Chatterbox.  The instructor will have the communicator – the student will just need to plug their headset into the instructor’s communicator.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our July 12 DE.  Thank you all for your patience during these trying, unprecedented times.  Thanks to all of the drivers that supported our DE program during 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

Your 2010 helmets are good thru the end of 2021.   After that, you must have a SA2015 or a SA2020 helmet – it’s a PCA minimum standards rule.

Be safe. See you at the track.

Dave
