CVR at Lime Rock Park on May 13, 2023

The CVR DE season is in full swing, wrapping up another great day on May 13th at LRP.  We had a beautiful sunny day and lots of track time and everyone seemed to have a very good time.

We had many first time participants, with cars in the beginner group ranging from 1999 Boxsters all the way up to a bright red 2022 Boxster Spyder, with Caymans and 911s on the list as well.  But don’t think that you need a new car to do DE.   We had two cars from the 1970s – one in a solo rungroup, one in the instructor group.  The display of Porsches at a DE rivals what can be seen at concours and cars & coffee events.   Granted, many are not concours worthy but that’s just because the drivers have had fun driving their cars, both on the street and on the track. We see new cars, old cars, super clean cars and not so clean cars, in every color available on a paint chart, with and without graphics.

David drove his 2022 Boxster Spyder in the beginner rungroup at Lime Rock Park.

Our t-shirt sponsor for the event was Posh Auto Body, located in Waterbury, CT.   Co-owners Scott and Kathryn Lillie not only sponsored the shirt, they also both drove at the DE.  At one point, I looked out over the paddock and saw that a lot of the drivers were already wearing their new CVR/Posh shirt.  The next time you need some body work done, from a street car insurance claim to having Scott do some custom fiberglass work, nothing is too big, complicated or small for the crew at Posh Auto Body to handle. Thanks to Scott and Kathryn for being part of CVR DE.

Many of the DE shirts have a small nod to the year – this shirt has a 23 on the Porsche hood.
Kathryn, from Posh Auto Body, drove a 1999 Boxster at Lime Rock Park.

I also want to thank Seamus Brown for once again spending time taking pictures of our drivers out on track.   Instead of sitting around while his rungroup was off track, he put on an orange photography vest and went out to different areas of the track.  He sent Susan almost 400 photos, for her to send to the individual drivers.  He took many pictures of cars after the uphill, at West Bend and at the bridge, areas that are the least covered at a DE, picture-wise.  Thanks Seamus.

We held a food drive to benefit the Corner Food Pantry based in Lakeville, CT.  Once again, the CVR DE drivers gave generously and we collected boxes and bags of food, and some cash, filling the backs of two cars.   Thank you to everyone who donated.

Lots of food donations for the Corner Food Pantry

Look for our upcoming events on CVR’s calendar and on ClubRegistration.net, most notably June 5th at LRP for all rungroups and then our June 12/13 event at Watkins Glen, for advanced drivers.  At WGI, we will have only two rungroups with tons of track time and dinner on Monday night at the Harbor Hotel.

Don’t procrastinate about doing a DE.  Time goes by too quickly and you should give it a try before it’s too late.  Go online and just register and see what all of the fun is about.  Come and drive your car the way it was meant to be driven, under the guidance of one of CVRs qualified instructors.  You might want to kick yourself for not trying it sooner, now knowing what you have been missing.

If the drivers have their ‘eyes up’, they see ‘Never stop driving’ before they get to the bridge.

I look forward to seeing you at the track.

Dave
